The Clapper Article, 2009

We had a very successful 1-week long Whitechapel Guild (WCG) "Ringing Camp" the week of June 8 -12. Four NCS "rising sophomores" attended. Several WRS ringers (Rick Dirksen, Quilla Roth, Paula Fleming, Ed Donnen, Mary Clark, Rick DuPuy, Katie Emmons, Haley Barnett, and Cecily Rock) provided instruction and ringing stability during the Camp.
Studying
The girls (Arlana Agiliga, Camilla Foster, Cassandra Moshfegh, and Kira Reinke) all had great energy and enthusiasm, and picked things up very quickly (including blisters, calluses, and familiarity with taping fingers). They had started to learn ringing in WCG at the beginning of April and entered the camp needing to solidify handling and having had only one brief try at ringing rounds with other ringers. They left with much firmer handling skills, an appreciation of excellent ringing (from some recordings) , new listening skills to use with their own ringing, experience ringing Rounds, Call Changes, and Plain Hunt Doubles on at least one bell, and tenoring behind. We hope that they'll be able to attend some WRS practices during the rest of the summer and will continue to make great progress.   article by Quilla Roth; images by Mary Clark
