A nice vignette by John King:
I (John King) am on the left, followed by Tony Buttle, who was attached to the British Embassy in
DC for several years and who was a WRS stalwart. My fondest recollection
of Tony's North American sojourn was our weekend trip to North Carolina,
where we grabbed Hendersonville, then proceeded to Raleigh, where we
rang what was, at that time, a Guild record for the fastest peal of the
most number of doubles methods on what at the time was the Christ Church
five-bell peal. It was May 26, 1991. It was Tony's first doubles as
conductor, and we rang it as a birthday compliment to him. My peal
records do not say the number of methods/variations, but the number 42
comes to mind. Not too long afterward Don Trumpler rang a greater number
of doubles methods in a few less minutes.
The person on Tony's left, I don't have a clue! [Paul Timmel on the
right]
