The Education for Excellence Program (TEEP) About TEEP
The Education for Excellence Program (TEEP) is a free five-week summer program for middle school students from across the city. This summer camp experience is centered on academic classes in the morning, which are taught by faculty from the three Cathedral schools. It also includes a wide variety of afternoon cultural and enrichment activities, such as community service, drama, sports, stone carving and other activities at the Cathedral. TEEP is designed to enrich the minds and lives of students, engage them creatively, and engender a love and discipline for learning.
The TEEP program was founded at Trinity Church New Orleans in 1967 and began at Trinity Church Boston in 1999 as outreach programs for those institutions. Since its inception, the goal of TEEP has been to provide low-income students with a program of academic and cultural exploration. Canon William Barnwell brought TEEP to Washington National Cathedral, which recently completed its first summer in 2006. Students are recruited from various public, charter and parochial schools from under-resourced communities in Washington, DC. Students participate during the summers before their 7th and 8th grade years. Currently, we are recruiting rising 8th graders for the summer of 2007. If you would like more information, please contact the Rev. Canon William Barnwell at (202) 537-5522 or WBarnwell@cathedral.org; or Linda Terrell at (202) 537-5240 or LTterrell@cathedral.org. Mission To create a safe community where every student is inspired to discover, empowered to engage, and be individually affirmed.
The Five Rs TEEP follows the principles of the 5 Rs. All students, teachers, counselors and staff incorporate these concepts into their daily interactions at TEEP.
