Here is some important information to print and keep handy for your trip. All activities are free and open to the public. SCHEDULE for MAJOR STATE DAYS STARTING OCTOBER 2007
SEATING The headcount you entered will be counted into the seating number. Seats for Major State Day guests are blocked in prime viewing locations and are given out on a first come, first served basis. Plan to arrive early, and tell an usher that you are with the State group. You will not receive tickets or any other confirmation. ACOLYTES & CLERGY Acolytes and Clergy who want to vest and process in the service are welcome; they will be seated in a separate section near the State Day group. The numbers you entered on the registration form should reflect this distinction. Acolytes and Clergy should bring their own vestments and arrive no later than 10:30 am. So as not to disturb the Sunday Forum, processing acolytes and clergy will gather in a separate location (not in the nave). For larger State Sundays processing acolytes and clergy will gather in Davis Dining Hall (National Cathedral School for Girls) or in a crypt chapel (not in the nave). When you arrive please ask a volunteer or usher where processing clergy and acolytes should gather. A Cathedral verger or volunteer will brief all visiting acolytes and clergy and assist your group with the procession line-up. If you plan to bring your parish and/or diocesan banner, you need to also bring the corresponding poles and stanchion(s). Please note that you are welcome to bring banners, but leave your crosses and torches at your home parish. (Please note that during Advent and Lent there is no visiting acolyte and clergy procession.) If your final headcount changes significantly, please contact Benjamin Bradburn, program manger, at bbradburn@cathedral.org or (202) 537-5519 no later than 10 days before your state day. COFFEE HOUR FELLOWSHIP (and Lunchon your own) The Washington Committee of the NCA will host a coffee hour immediately following the service; the location will be announced in the service leaflet. Please note that you will need to make your own arrangements for lunch. There are two restaurants within walking distance of the Cathedral: Cactus Cantina (202-686-7222) and Café Deluxe (202-244-1330), both located two blocks north of the Cathedral on Wisconsin Avenue. GROUP TOURS After the reception, select guides will offer special tours highlighting the way your state is represented in the Cathedrals art and architecture. Longer, docent-led tours and self-guided audio tours are available without reservation at the west end of the Cathedral anytime following the service, until about 2:30 pm. DIRECTIONS & PARKING The Cathedral is located off Wisconsin Avenue, just north of its intersection with Massachusetts Avenue, in Northwest Washington, D.C. You will find driving directions, Metro directions and parking information on the Cathedrals website (www.nationalcathedral.org) under the Visit tab. In addition, a map of the Cathedral close is available under the Discover tab. We invite you to take advantage of the new underground car parking garage in which parking is free on Sundays. Parking in the neighborhood is restricted and limited; out of concern for our neighbors and for your convenience please use the Cathedral parking garage. BUSES If you plan to arrive by bus, the Cathedral now has dedicated bus parking underground in the new bus garage facility. In order to reserve space for your vehicle in the garage, please contact the Cathedrals Group Visit Coordinator at groups@cathedral.org. Please be prepared to provide the name of your group, the date/time of your arrival, and the approximate length of your stay. More information on group visits to the Cathedral is available online at http://groups.cathedral.org. Please help us maintain a respectful relationship with our neighbors by making sure that no buses park or unload in front of the Cathedral on Wisconsin Avenue or on any surrounding neighborhood side streets.
