As part of its national ministry, Washington National Cathedral has for many years individually honored each state in the union. Each Sunday (and throughout the following week), during worship services we pray for the government and people of one state, recognizing every state in the union, once each year on its State Sunday. In January 1996, the Cathedral initiated enhanced Major State Day celebrations that usually occur on the third Sunday of each month. Each state in the union has its own Major State Day once every four years to five years. On Major State Days, the Cathedral offers a special welcome to people who have ties to the honored state and provides them with opportunities for worship, prayer and fellowship. All people from your state are welcome to worship with us, especially on their Major State Day. Plan a trip to be in Washington for your Major State Day. You are most welcome to bring your family, friends or church community to the Cathedral to worship with us on your state’s special day. For further information, or to become a member of the planning team for your states special worship service, please contact the National Cathedral Association at Washington National Cathedral: (800) 622-6304 or e-mail nca@cathedral.org. |
