Explore the Heart of Christian Faith

Many of us have been exposed to bits and pieces of the Christian faith all our lives
but have yet to grasp its fullness

What difference can the Christian faith really make in our lives?
How can we know the depth and power it has to offer?
Is there something fresh and new underneath those ancient words and beliefs?

DOCC Classes at the Cathedral

The Very Rev. Samuel T. Lloyd III

We know that faith can make a profound difference in our lives, but does it? We hunger for the depth and power that it offers, but how do we partake of it? We yearn for a fresh understanding of those ancient words and beliefs, but how do we attain it?

Join Dean Samuel Lloyd and Canon William Barnwell on a 15-week journey deep into the heart of our Christian faith called “Disciples of Christ in Community” (DOCC). This is the third time that this class will be offered at the Cathedral. Dean Lloyd and Canon Barnwell have so far led about 220 people through this course of study at the Cathedral, among them members of some ten Episcopal churches, some from other denominations, as well as a number with no church affiliation. The response has been enthusiastic.

DOCC participantsDOCC will meet every Tuesday evening from 7–9 pm, Tuesday, January 8–Tuesday, April 29, 2008, and one Saturday, February 2, from 9 am–3 pm. Dean Lloyd, the principal presenter, will speak for approximately 45 minutes on the fundamental teachings of the Christian faith. This talk will be followed by an hour-long conversation in small groups to conclude promptly at 9 pm. The groups will stay together for the entire course. An optional supper will be served at 6 pm. The class fee is $50 per person.

The purpose of the class is to provide an encounter with Christian faith, both in its central teachings and in the experience of Christian community, through small group interaction. Our hope is that the people who take this course will learn for themselves the difference Christian faith can make in the quality of their lives and the living of their days.

DOCC participants“DOCC has transformed my life.” That is a common response from participants who have completed this course. These informative lectures on the central teachings of the faith combined with the shared intimacy of Christian community through small group interaction provide a dynamic personal encounter with the Christian faith and ultimately a more mindful, purposeful walk with Christ. People who take DOCC learn for themselves the power of the Christian faith to impact the quality of their lives and the living of their days. Come along on this journey into the heart and soul of Christianity along with a community of fellow-travelers. Come…and be filled.
