Julie Cooke Julie Cooke assumed the duties of director of Visitor Programs and Volunteer Services in February 2001, and more recently took on additional responsibilities for overseeing Cathedral Centennial activities and programs. She supervises and coordinates the offices of Visitor Programs, Volunteer Services and Area School Programs, which attract more than 600,000 visitors to the Cathedral each year and are staffed by more than 1,200 volunteers. She also holds responsibility for exhibitions, the Tour and Tea program and other hospitality programs. Ms. Cooke served as the 2000 chair of Washington National Cathedrals All Hallows Guild Flower Mart, a major annual outdoor fundraiser for the Cathedrals gardens and grounds. From 1995 to 1998 Ms. Cooke supervised the development of St. Johns Episcopal Preschool where she currently serves as chair of the board. Earlier she taught middle school in Rochester, New York. Her professional experience also includes a senior position in the office of First Lady Barbara Bush, where she coordinated literacy, education and other outreach programs, including an annual White House tour program for 9,000 District of Columbia public school students. Beforehand she served as coordinator of Bicentennial Programs for the National Park Service. Ms. Cooke graduated from Grove City College in Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and secondary education. She has also completed course work in George Mason Universitys Nonprofit Management Graduate Certificate program. She presently serves on the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum Advisory Council. |
