Concert to Celebrate Release of Compact Disc

Washington — The music department of Washington National Cathedral will release their latest compact disc, Sound from Heaven, with a concert at the Cathedral on February 10, 2004, at 8 pm.

Sound from Heaven contains the world’s only recording of the 12-century medieval mass for Pentecost, Messe de Tournai, performed in multiple voices singing different parts at once.

Performing on the CD are Washington National Cathedral’s Girls Choristers, organist Erik Wm. Suter and carillonneur Edward Nassor. Joining them are Anna Friman of the Scandinavian ensemble Trio Mediaeval and the Princeton, New Jersey quintet, Quintus Quodlibet.

Unlike most concerts at the Cathedral, which are staged at the Great Crossing, Sound from Heaven will be performed at the high altar. It marks the first time the entire recording ensemble has performed selections from the CD live.

The concert will include a special performance of Trio Mediaeval. They will sing selections from their new CD Soir, Dit-Elle.

Ticket prices are $15 for the great choir and $10 for non-view seats. Tickets may be purchased via phone at (202) 537-6216 or at the Cathedral’s online ticket order form. The CD is available at the cathedral gift shop or online at www.shop.cathedral.org for $19.99.
