The Cathedral Scholars Program began this summer on June 24, 2002. As part of Washington National Cathedral’s mission to the District of Columbia and to the nation as a whole, the Cathedral Scholars Program was established for D.C. public high school students to help them fully realize their academic and social potentials. The program calls on the unique and varied resources of the Cathedral community, especially those of the National Cathedral School for Girls and St. Albans School for Boys.

Each year, fifteen rising tenth graders from five D.C. public schools are enrolled in the program. Each scholar spends three summers of study on the Cathedral close. National Cathedral School and St. Albans teachers, as well as members of the Cathedral clergy, serve as the program’s faculty. The program’s goal is to help students prepare for appropriate advanced educational training by providing the necessary resources to build a rich community spirit, building confidence, honing academic skills, challenging intellect, stimulating imagination, stretching moral and ethical sensibilities.
