IMMEDIATE RELEASE Dean Announces Appointment of Director of National Cathedral Association Washington DC- The Very Rev. Nathan D. Baxter, Dean of Washington National Cathedral, announced today the appointment of Vanessa B. Andrews as Director of the National Cathedral Association (NCA), the Cathedrals nationwide membership organization. Ms. Andrews succeeds Ray A. Foote who recently assumed duties as Senior Director for Membership & Development. For the past four years, Ms. Andrews has served as a Senior Consultant for BearingPoint (formerly KPMG Consulting) in Washington, DC. Her work there included advising nonprofit organizations on technology, management practices, and other areas. She has advised clients as diverse as the American Red Cross and Catholic Relief Services. Ms. Andrews also served in the development office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation for three years, ultimately as Acting Director of General Appeals. Her development experience also includes three years of work at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle where she worked closely with volunteers, managed high-level donor programs, and supported the organizations Board of Trustees. Vanessa brings strong experience in nonprofit management, including significant work with development, volunteers, and strategy, said Baxter upon announcing the appointment. Her professional experience in a variety of institutions, her creativity, and her desire to expand the Cathedrals national presence will combine to help take our work to the next level. I am very proud to welcome Vanessa to my Senior Staff. Begun in 1899, the NCA has long served as a primary means by which the Cathedral reaches out to and involves individuals, churches, and communities nationwide in the Cathedrals mission and ministry. -More- Dean Announces Continued- The Association counts 13,500 members from every state. It conducts events nationwide through a network of 125 dedicated regional volunteer leaders. In addition, it organizes the Cathedrals State Days program and jointly administers the Cathedrals Pilgrimage Program with the Center for Prayer and Pilgrimage. Through these and other initiatives, the NCA connects thousands of individuals each year with the Cathedrals programs, worship, and activities. Ms. Andrews will be the organizations eleventh director since its founding. Governed by a 34-member Board of Trustees led by president Bruce Sanford, the NCA is integral to the Cathedrals Department of Membership & Development. The Department -- headquartered in Sayre House, named in honor of retired Cathedral Dean Francis B. Sayre -- is part of the Cathedrals External Relations Area, led by Executive Director Dennis L. Fruitt. Ms. Andrews is a graduate of Vassar College, where she earned her B.A. in Art History. She also earned an M.B.A. from Yale University with concentrations in strategy and nonprofit management. Ms. Andrews is a Deacon and Assistant Clerk at Cleveland Park Congregational Church in Washington, DC, and is an active volunteer with IONA Senior Services and Business Volunteers for the Arts® / Washington (a program of the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington). Her interests include running, rollerblading, drawing and painting. Ms. Andrews will begin her duties as the Director of the Association on January 2, 2003.
