Cathedral Welcomes New Pastoral Associate

The Cathedral’s Department of Program and Ministry has welcomed a new staff member to the Close.

Joining the staff as a part time Pastoral Associate is the Reverend Doctor Jean L. Milliken. An Episcopal priest, Dr. Milliken is also trained in pastoral psychotherapy and is a Fellow of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. She is a cum laude graduate of the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and has earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Wesley Theological Seminary.

Throughout her career, Dr. Milliken has served a number of Episcopal parishes; most recently she served as part time interim rector at St. Peter’s parish in Arlington, Virginia. In 1989 she founded Pastoral Counseling Network, Inc., a practice from which she counseled individuals and couples until her arrival at St. Peter’s in the fall of 2001.

Dr. Milliken has chaired the Commission on Human Sexuality for the Diocese of Virginia and has also worked as adjunct faculty and clergy mentor to students at Virginia Theological Seminary. For more than twenty years she has been a member of the Faith at Work Board of Directors.

Along with Canon Pastor Eugene Sutton, Dr. Milliken will serve the pastoral needs of the cathedral community, supervising the Alms Fund and the Cathedral Chaplains programs. She will also join cathedral clergy in worship duties on a part time basis.
