FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Cathedral Announces Interim Director of Liturgy and Worship Washington National Cathedral is pleased to announce the appointment of The Reverend W. Bruce McPherson as Interim Director of Liturgy and Worship. Father McPherson will replace The Reverend Canon Peter Grandell who recently resigned, and will serve at least until the appointment of a new Cathedral Dean. A specialist in interim ministries and conflict resolution, Father McPherson is currently interim rector of Saint Stephens Church in Crownsville, Maryland. Other recent assignments have included serving as interim rector at Saint Peters Church in Arlington, Virginia; the Church of the Good Shepherd in Baltimore; and All Saints Church in Sunderland, Maryland. He has also served at the Church of the Nativity in Baltimore and Saint Georges Church in Manchester, Maryland. Father McPherson came to the priesthood later in his professional life, after a distinguished career in banking and business consulting. While with Mason-Dixon Bancshares in the late 90s he was Executive Vice President responsible for commercial lending after serving for a number of years with MNC Financial/Bank of America as Executive Vice President for Real Estate Lending. He currently serves as chair of the Episcopal Housing Corporation and is past chair of the Compensation and Benefits Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. Father McPherson is a graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and holds an MBA from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from the General Theological Seminary in New York in 1991 and was ordained to the priesthood in January of 1993. He will meet regularly with the Worship Department and Senior Staffs throughout the remainder of the year and will begin his duties as interim director in January of 2004. # # # Office of Public Affairs |
