CATHEDRAL HOSTS JURIED PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
WHAT: Seeing the Light: Reflections of the Spiritual
WHEN: Mailed pieces should arrive between November 28 and
December 10, 2002. Drop-off of artwork will be received on December 5-7,
2002.
WHERE: Washington National Cathedral
Wisconsin and Massachusetts Avenues, N.W.
The Cathedral invites photographers to capture the fleeting moments
and pervasive atmosphere of the Cathedral gardens, grounds, and
building. Overall, photographs should convey a sense of the spiritual,
and respond to these themes:
- Peace and contemplation
- Inspiration and joy
- Simplicity and grandeur
The exhibition will be on display during the spring and summer of 2003.
Submission Guidelines
An entry fee of $20 entitles photographers to submit up to three works.
Students under the age of 18 may enter two works for a $15 entry fee.
Prints are to be between 3"x 3" and 11"x 14" and must be submitted in a
single black or white mat, with backing, to 11"x 14" or 16" x 20".
Special considerations may be made for unusual pieces or series, at
photographers inquiry. Photographers will be contacted about return of
artwork and framing. Photographs must have been taken within the last
two years. Photographers must follow Guidelines for Photographers. This
exhibition is open to amateur and professional photographers working in
any photographic medium.
Jurors
Kathleen Ewing is the owner/director of
Kathleen Ewing Gallery, established as a showplace for fine-art
photography in Washington, D.C. and is the executive director of the
Association of International Photography Art Dealers.
Robert Lautman is a nationally-known architectural photographer-one of a
few photographers awarded the gold medal for photography by the American
Institute of Architects.
Alexandra Scott studied photography
at the Corcoran School of Art, lectures on and teaches garden
photography, and has published a book of photographs of the Cathedral
Close.
Donovan Marks is photo editor for Cathedral Age
magazine and also an award-winning freelance photographer.
