FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Canon Precentor to Depart It is with regret that I announce that the Rev. Canon Peter Grandell has informed me that he plans to leave his post as Precentor and Senior Canon of the Cathedral Church of St. Peter and St. Paul on October 1, 2003. Canon Grandell has decided that this interim period between deans provides him with an opportunity to break free of the intense responsibilities of Precentor, to take time for spiritual renewal and to consider other options for his ministry in the church. He also believes that his departure at this time will free the next dean of the Cathedral to choose his/her own person for the key Cathedral role of Precentor. During his four years as Precentor, Canon Grandell has contributed to the quality of the liturgical life of the Cathedral in many ways. Under his supervision the Cathedral was able to respond creatively to the events of September 11, 2001, to celebrate Dean Nathan Baxter’s ministry with joy and thanksgiving, and to mark the recent visit of the Dalai Lama with dignity and respect. Peter Grandell’s theological acumen, aesthetic sensibilities, warm personality and consistent good humor will be missed by all of us who have worked closely with him.
