ORGANIST APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED AT WASHINGTON Today, Washington National Cathedrals Dean Sam Lloyd announced the appointment of two new organists. Scott Dettra, former interim Cathedral organist, is Organist and Associate Director of Music. In his new role, Dettra is responsible for the organ playing at more than 350 services annually and assists Music Director Michael McCarthy with the direction of Cathedral Choirs. Christopher Jacobson, former Cathedral organ scholar, now serves as the Assistant Organist and Assistant Director of Music where he accompanies and assists in directing the Cathedral Choirs. He is also responsible for the training and education of the Junior Choristers. Mr. Dettra is also assistant conductor and keyboard artist of both the Cathedral Choral Society and the Washington Bach Consort. He previously held positions at St. Pauls, K Street in Washington, D.C., St. Marks located in Philadelphia and Trinity Church of Princeton. A prize-winning organist, he has performed at national conventions of the American Guild of Organists and the Association of Anglican Musicians, and has appeared at notable venues throughout the world. In addition to many recording credits, his performances have been broadcast numerous times on the BBC, NPR and PRI. Mr. Dettra holds two degrees from Westminster Choir College and has studied at Manhattan School of Music. Before moving to Washington, D.C., Mr. Jacobson served as Organist and Choirmaster at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Rochester, New York. He holds the Master of Music degree in Organ Performance and the Sacred Music Diploma from the Eastman School of Music. Mr. Jacobson received his Bachelor of Music degree with distinction in Organ Performance from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. He has earned first prize in several prestigious organ competitions. ### | |
