A Prayer for the Space Shuttle Columbia Crew

The heavens declare your glory, O God,
The firmament shows forth your handiwork,
And your wisdom has led us to explore
the vastness of outer space;
We have taken pride in the achievements of scientists
and astronauts of many nations,
But have also forgotten the risks with which they reckon.
Help us to cope with the loss of the Space Shuttle Columbia,
the deaths of all on board, and the experiments
whose results will not be known.
Give comfort to the families and colleagues of those who died;
Receive into the arms of your mercy,
Rick Husband, William McCool, Michael Anderson, Kalpana Chawla,
Laurel Clark, David Brown, and Ilan Ramon; and grant us, in the midst
of so many and great dangers to rest in your eternal
Changelessness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and
Reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God now and forever.
Amen.
