Memorial Service for Crew of Space Shuttle Columbia

Washington National Cathedral will be the site of a memorial service (participant list here) for the crew of the space shuttle Columbia on Thursday, February 6, at 10:00 am.

No Media Parking on Cathedral Grounds (“Cathedral Close”)

Washington, DC- Due to modified traffic patterns and security concerns there will be no parking of media vehicles on Washington National Cathedral’s Close for Thursday’s Shuttle Memorial Service.


Limited Public Seating Available

Washington DC- Seating for the general public will be very limited and passes will be required at NASA’s memorial service in honor of the Crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia on Thursday, February 6, at 10:00 am at Washington National Cathedral.

Pass distribution will begin at the Cathedral Gatehouse on Wisconsin Avenue, beginning at approximately 9:15 am, or as seats become available.

Doors open at 9:00 am, prelude music begins at 9:30 am, and the service will begin at 10:00 am


Press Information for Shuttle Memorial Service

Washington DC- Washington National Cathedral will be the site of a memorial service for the crew of the space shuttle Columbia on Thursday, February 6, at 10:00 am.

Vice-President Richard (Dick) B. Cheney will join NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe Thursday for a private memorial service to honor the dedicated and brave crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia.

Entrance
Press can enter the Cathedral through the doors of the south transept (south side of the building). This entrance is located on South Road opposite the Pilgrim Steps (just below the Pilgrim Steps is a statue of George Washington on horseback). A press area has been designated in the South Balcony. Please be prepared to show media credentials. Doors will open at 9:00 am.

Television
- Television coverage will be provided by NASA-TV via satellite feed.
- To receive taped coverage, please bring recording decks for feed from NASA production facility.
- NTV is broadcast on AMC-2, transponder 9C, C-Band, located at 85 degrees west longitude. The frequency is 3880.0 MHz. Polarization is vertical and audio is monaural at 6.8 MHz

Radio
- Please call Verizon to install phone line into the Cathedral.s South Balcony.

Photographers
- South balcony only
- Only official Cathedral, NASA and White House photographers will have access to the nave floor.

Reporters
