REVERED THEOLOGIANS TO HONOR In a rare public appearance, acclaimed author and Presbyterian minister Frederick Buechner will engage in a lively panel discussion about the impact of his writings on American religious life, Wednesday, April 5, at 7 pm. The three paneliststhe Rev. Dr. Peter Gomes, Plummer Professor of Christian Morals and Pusey Minister in the Memorial Church at Harvard University; the Rev. Barbara Brown Taylor, an Episcopal priest who teaches religion at Piedmont College in northeast Georgia; and Dr. Thomas G. Long, Bandy Professor of Preaching at Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlantawill share their insights into Buechners sermons, including his new collection featured in his latest book, Secrets in the DarkA Life in Sermons. Moderator for the evening will be former CNN and ABC news producer Jody Hassett, now president of Pointy Shoe Productions which focuses on issues of faith and culture. To have such a respected trio of theologians pay homage to Frederick Buechner at the Cathedral is momentous, said Dean Samuel T. Lloyd III of Washington National Cathedral. Buechners passionate sermons and gifted storytelling provide guidance and clarity to so many people. We are honored to have him as our guest. Of the evening, HarperCollins Associate Publisher Claudia Riemer Boutote says, Not only do we want to honor a great literary figure and his unique body of work, we also want to lift up an ideal, in writing as well as in preaching, of the potential of the human heart and mind. This event is a fitting celebration of Frederick Buechners enormous contributions. The event is free and open to the public, and is co-sponsored by the Cathedral College and Harper San Francisco.
