CATHEDRAL COLLEGE WARDEN WINS AWARD Building on his reputation as an outstanding preacher, the Rev. Canon Howard Anderson, Ph.D. has won top honors at the annual Polly Bond Awards sponsored by Episcopal Communicators. Canon Andersons sermon, For 147: Years: Better at Including than Excluding which he delivered at the 2004 Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota, garnered an Award of Excellence in the Theological Reflection category. It would be a better worldand ours would be a holier churchif such preaching took place across the land, wrote one judge about the sermon. Touched by his storytelling, another judge noted the sermon artfully weaves personal grief, boldness of dioceses founders, recent acts of inclusion and bravery, Native American story and presence, and a challenge to dare such boldness in days to come. Canon Andersons talents as a priest, pastor, preacher and educator are giving new direction to the Cathedral College of Washington National Cathedral since his installation as president and warden in January 2005. The college serves a national ecumenical and interfaith community of religious leaders and envisions itself as the leading spiritual and educational resource for all who proclaim the message of God. /P> The Polly Bond Awards are named after one of the founders of the Episcopal Communicators and acknowledge excellence and achievement in the ministry of church communication. Judges consist of a panel of media professionals. Click here to read the full text of Canon Andersons sermon.
