Visiting Choirs

Washington National Cathedral provides opportunities for visiting choirs to include the following:

  • Choral Prelude (unaccompanied sacred choral music)
    to Sunday services:
3:30 pm Prelude for 4 pm Evensong
  • Office of Evensong on Fridays (all months excluding June)
  • Any or all choral services in a given week during July:
Sunday Eucharist at 8:45 am & 11:15 am
       Sunday Evensong at 4 pm
       Weekday Evensong at 5:30 pm

During the school term (September–May), the possibility exists to combine a Sunday choral prelude with a Friday Evensong to form a long weekend in Washington.

Guest Organ Recitalists

Washington National Cathedral has a long-standing tradition of presenting organ recitals on a weekly basis. The recitals follow Sunday Evensong throughout the year and feature organists from all over the world. Due to the ongoing organ project, however, these weekly programs are presently on hold, and we are not accepting applications at this time.

To celebrate the Cathedral’s Centennial in 2007, a special Centennial Organ Recital Series is currently in progress, with monthly recitals featuring many of the world’s finest organists. This monthly series takes place of the regular weekly recitals during the Centennial year. Centennial musical festivities will culminate in the Centennial Summer Festival in June of 2008.

Following the festival, the East End organ will be removed in preparation for the arrival of the new instrument. Festivities for the inauguration of the new organs will be planned, and the regular Sunday series will resume following these celebrations. Please check the organ project page periodically to track the progress of this exciting project.
