The Archives of Washington National Cathedral includes in its collection

  • historical records of the building of the Cathedral and the establishment of the Cathedral Foundation
  • service registers and leaflets
  • scrapbooks and news clippings from 1894 to 1985
  • records of iconography and furnishings
  • architectural and construction records
  • a complete collection of the quarterly magazine Cathedral Age, beginning in 1925
  • information about Cathedral artists
  • photographs of national events occurring at the Cathedral

The Archives does not include in its collection historical materials of the national Episcopal Church nor baptismal, marriage, and other personal data records of church members nationally, nor does it have any genealogical information.

The Cathedral Archives welcomes short, specific questions, either by mail (Washington National Cathedral Archives, 3101 Wisconsin Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20016-5098) or by e-mail. Turn-around time is three weeks.

Those requiring more extensive research must work on-site with Archives personnel. Applications for an appointment to do extensive research must be made in writing at least two weeks in advance.

Archives’ hours of operation are Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm.
